Order Optimizer Merging Engine Recognized as Unique, Awarded Patent
US Patent Office awards US intellectual property protection patent
June 23, 2011
The US Patent Office announced Tuesday, June 21, 2011 that Order Optimizer’s evidence-based content merging engine is unique and has provided it intellectual property protection through a US Patent. The merging engine allows physicians to utilize a single merged evidence-based order set at the point of care, eliminating duplicate orderables across co-morbidity evidence sources. The merging engine can be utilized directly or integrated into ISV platforms and holds an ONC Stage I Modular EHR certification.
“Merging evidence based order sets provides an intuitive, efficient means for physicians to adopt clinical best practices” states Order Optimizer founder Dr. Philip Sanger. “In this HITECH ACT world, with its pressures to optimize patient throughput while demonstrating meaningful use compliance, doctors need tools designed for the way they act, think, and practice.”
The ability to integrate the merging engine within CPOE platforms allows Order Optimizer partners to enhance their core capabilities in physician-friendly ways. Coupled with Order Optimizer’s cloud-delivered, maintenance-free order set service and clinical content management platforms, the system represents a full suite of easily adopted, high impact solutions for today’s HIE challenges.

JPS Health Network selects Order Optimizer for clinical decision support and order set management
September 8, 2009
JPS Health Network (JPS), a Fort Worth, Texas-based healthcare system, has selected Order Optimizer to provide its evidence-based order set and clinical decision support platform. In support of the facility’s top clinical priority for 2009, Order Optimizer was selected from a field of vendors for its renowned usability, extensive protocol library, and rapid implementation.
Dr. Judi Binderman, interim chief medical information officer noted, “having looked at a number of order entry systems, it was clear Order Optimizer knows how physicians work and think. Equally important, the rapid, seven week implementation means we will be live with a fully customized order entry solution in Q4 of this year – much more quickly than we thought possible.”
Order Optimizer leverages its advanced, patent pending technologies and the power of the secure internet to provide merged evidence-based protocols and clinical decision support to the point of care, “anywhere.” This flexibility allows physicians to practice consistent, high quality medicine inside and outside the hospital walls, around the clock. Additionally, Order Optimizer helps hospitals meet the 2011 requirements of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act’s (ARRA) HITECH program enabling facilities to generate at least 10% of orders electronically, achieve electronic prescribing for all order types including medications, implement drug-drug, drug-allergy, drug-formulary checks, record vital signs, maintain lists of current problems, active medications, and medication allergies, and incorporate laboratory test results into the ordering process.
“We are pleased to partner with JPS to fulfill their top clinical priority – giving busy doctors ease of access to merged evidence-based protocols and clinical decision support at the point of care. Order Optimizer positions JPS to meet its ARRA “meaningful use” milestones, without implementation risk or capital expenditures. Web-based delivery, and continuously updated protocols are the right answer to the very difficult topic of computerized order entry,” states Order Optimizer President, Robert Weathersby.
